Charlie Parr : Biography
Charlie Parr was raised in Austin, Minn, in a household that prized traditional American folk music and his style bears the influence of hours spent listening to country blues records and Smithsonian/Folkways field recordings. Playing original and traditional folk and Piedmont-style blues, while accompanying himself on National resonator guitars, 12-string guitar and banjo, Charlie’s authenticity has been celebrated by both critics and peers alike as evidenced by recent quotes from fellow Duluth native, Alan Sparhawk of Low:
Charlie Parr is one of the greatest musicians and human beings I know. So many country-blues artists are crippled with retroism and purism, but he has brought wonder and excitement to this music. Even Charlie's foot coming down on the floor boards screams with more soul and life than most anything - past or future.
Having performed publicly since 1988, and recently sharing the stage with the likes of Haley Bonar, The Black-Eyed Snakes, Baby Grant Johnson, Dan Rumsey, Paul Metsa, Dakota Dave Hull, Cam Waters, Bob Brozman, Catfish Keith and Greg Brown among others, Charlie has continued to tour both nationally and internationally in support of his latest Eclectone Records release, “Rooster”. |
